Imaging of Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy (CAA) using syngo SWI
Compared to conventional T2*-weighted imaging susceptibility-weighted imaging (syngo SWI) is very sensitive in detection of small bleedings and small vascular malformations. In his case report Markus Lentschig, M.D. from the MR Center Bremen in Germany shows that syngo SWI is also a sensitive tool for the precise assessment of cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). Multiple smallest cortical and subcortical bleedings were depicted in detail and in this case extend and severity of CAA as visualized by SWI would have been clearly underestimated based on conventional MRI only.
